Don't go looking at A Knight's Tale for historical authenticity. This medieval adventure, about a peasant who poses as a knight so he can enter jousting tournaments and conquer the oppression of class segregation, takes place in the medieval times that are imagined, not the ones that ever existed. It's a fairy tale, which is not to say it's not down to earth, with lots of humor and deliciously evil villains and some extremely amusing anachronisms. In an age where fluff movies are little more than computer generated effects demonstrations, A Knight's Tale is a refreshing reminder of just how much fun fluff can be when it has a story and some good dialogue. As far as visuals go, seeing lances shattering on armor was more impressive than anything I saw in The Mummy Returns, released around the same time.
