"Ricky-oh" is Hong Kong movie-making at its most absurd, over the top and hilarious. The plot concerns Ricky Ho (correct spelling), a model citizen sent to uber-maximum security prison for avenging the death of his girlfriend. (I say "maximum security prison," but nobody is ever locked in their cells. This is on top of the fact that there are hardly any guards, and what guards there are are very very skinny.) As soon as he's there, however, he manages to get on the bad side of the corrupt guards, who then send an enormous thug to kill him. This, of course, is a model opportunity for some fantastic dialogue. Observe:

Zorro the Enormous Thug: "Somebody gave me thirty pounds of rice to finish you off, turn you into mincemeat, and put you in a pie!"

Ricky: "Think you can do it?!"

Fantastic. This brilliant dialogue is made all the more hilarious by the terrible dubbing, which is done by about two or three guys trying to do different voices.

Ricky kills the enormous thug by ramming his fist through his belly, revealing to us that he possesses super-human strength. (This is explained by a flashback in which we see the teachings of his mentor, who laughs a lot.)

The assistant warden of the prison doesn't like this and attempts to dispose of him, particularly after Ricky discovers that the warden is growing opium.

So, in between the extensive plot developments we have a few less-than-expert displays of kung-fu and ridiculously over the top gore and violence. A highlight: During a fight with a corrupt inmate, the inmate realizes that he is no match for Ricky and commits seppuku. Ricky pleads with him not to. Then the inmate exclaims, "We can die together!" yanks out his own intestines, and tries to strangle Ricky with them. The shock value of the violence does diminish with repeated viewings, but the hilarity of the dialogue never dampens. I mean, who can resist such great lines as, "So you think you are human beings? To me you are lower than a fly!" and "No wonder everyone says you're the toughest man in this prison. You can even defeat my deadly strike."

Rating: 5 turkeys.

Scene to watch for: The death of Ricky's girlfriend. Never before have you seen a dummy falling off a building with such style.

Best line: "Rogan's kung-fu is unorthodox!"

Things that make you go "Huh?": There are far too many continuity errors to account for.
