To a small group of cult followers, "Army of Darkness" is one of the funniest B movies of all time. The reason is simply this: it refuses to take itself seriously, and ultra-serious thrill seekers are barking up the wrong tree with this one.

To me, Bruce Campbell is both preposterous and hysterical. Ash had a minor attitude readjustment since "Evil Dead 2" (possibly because he sawed his own hand off), and now he's a shotgun toting, chainsaw handed, "Give me some sugar baby" kind of guy. The physical element is never lacking, and the fight scene with his alter ego is one thigh slapper after another.

Even the actors know how non-serious this movie is. When the heroine is captured and converted to the "dark side," she said, "I may be bad, but I feel good!" with a straight face and such feeling that we had to pause the movie and take bathroom breaks from laughing so hard.

The wisecracking skeleton puppets ("I've got a bone to pick with you!") are a nice touch as well.

To sum up, you may not remember the names of the actors or directors after watching this movie any more than Ash can remember the magic words to recite to open the Necronomicon. This is a classic silly movie, with the director pulling out all the stops his low budget allows. Put your brain on the charger while watching and enjoy.

Scene to watch for: Ash gives "birth" (sort of).

Best line: "Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun."
