No, it's not "Meet the Deedles." That's a different and much dumber movie. This one is from Peter Jackson, the New Zealand filmmaking genius who gave us "Bad Taste" and "Dead Alive" (a.k.a. "Braindead"). And while this isn't dumb, it's absolutely tasteless, sick, and utterly revolting. What's worse, I do think that Jackson meant it to be so.

Take the Muppets; we all grew up with them, and loved their strange antics. Now take the Muppets, feed them a combination of heroin, LSD, cocaine, and model-glue vapors, and you have the Feebles. Yes, this film is the most tasteless and disgusting puppet film ever made.

Within the first hour we are treated to a heroin-addicted knife-throwing Vietnam veteran, a puppet love scene between a walrus and a siamese cat, unrecognizable balls of fur who soil a manic-depressive elephant's office and get subsequently squished into gory masses, a rabbit with HIV, a cuckolded hippo, and a drug-dealing Scottish warthog that plays golf. And let's not forget the porcupine who has a crush on a singing poodle as well as the racist stereotypes in the walrus' flashback.

Had enough yet? Well, good ol' Pete has yet more up his sleeve and delves even lower than that. I find it astonishing that a film could get this repugnant at just about every level. The sets are all blindingly dark (no budget for lighting), the songs are horrid (no budget for songwriting), the script is a patchwork of one bathroom-humor joke after another (no budget for screenwriting), and the puppet design is crude at best (no budg...well, you get the idea).

It seems to me that Peter Jackson viewed all of John Waters' films and said to himself, "You know, I can be more tasteless that all that...with puppets, no less."

He succeeded with this dreck.

Response From RinkWorks:

Yikes.
